DAY 1 - Site scrape and cut & fill . . .

Thursday 16th August - we have our sign!!!

Today is day one of work!  I got a call from our site super asking if I was close by to come down and meet him and look at where the house was positioned.

It was not quite where we had thought it was going to be from the plans.  Our measurements never seem to match up with those of the surveyors.  Thankfully I was there to say we'd like it moved over a couple of meters, so our garage wall wasn't right next to the trees where it would limit access to install our water tanks next week and future access to that site of the house where our services will be (power, gas, aircon, hot water).  They were happy to do this for us.

Unfortunately I had our car booked to be serviced, so was only able to see the first part of the site scrape.  It literally is a scrape.  The jaws of the bucket open up and as he reverses, it scrapes the grass and top layer off the ground.  Another handy piece of equipment to own :)

What I didn't get to see was the cutting and filling :(

After school we came back to have a look.  It was not quite what I expected.  The house pad is lower than the driveway by quite a bit.  I had imagined it would all still be level with the driveway.  But because of the fill required, they had to cut down.  So depending on the finished house level, we may need to cut our driveway down lower, or do some landscaping with a step down to the house, if we can get good drainage.

The kids had a great time playing on it.  Check out the dirty school shoes!

Our contract build time is 198 days - just over 28 weeks.  I told our site super we'd like to be in early January, which is about a month ahead of schedule, and when our lease runs out...

197 days to go and counting!  but hoping for around 160 days...
