I worked out it's been 8 months since we paid our deposit and signed up to build. After what seems like being buried forever in paperwork, plans and quotes, we've started!
It's not like we have been doing nothing in these 8 months. We spruced up our old house, sold it, found a rental home, moved, new schools, and all the other bits & pieces that go along with that. But we've been busting to get going, and we're SOOOOOOO excited to be making progress.
Our Site Supervisor seems fantastic. I think we'll get along great. He seems really organised, is easy going, and communicates regularly. I've met him onsite and spoken on the phone several times in the past 4 days he's been on our job, and even though he's looking after 23 houses being built (yikes!), he seems to have a good idea of what's happening on our site. He's given me the schedule for the following few weeks. I check the weather forecast each day for the coming weeks and so far looks good. But as I'm sitting here typing I can hear thunder! The radar has a small patch of medium fall of rain passing close by. It may just miss us. Fingers crossed, or it may delay us.
August -
Thursday 16th - work starts! site scape and cut & fill
Friday 17th - pegging out of house
Monday 20th - drainers will do under slab plumbing, and electrician will run power cables to the slab which means he can put in the meter box and connect power to site
Tuesday 21st - concreters will level house pad
Wednesday 22nd - form work for slab
Thursday 23rd - slab poured
Friday 24th - frame arrives & water tanks & hstp installed
We expect the following week the frame will go up, which takes about a week with a 2 storey house as scaffold is needed, followed by the roof. Then the house is wrapped in sisilation and is ready for rough in.
It's hard to believe that in 3 weeks we'll have something that resembles a house!
Monday 27th - safety fence erected
Tuesday 28th - upper floor frame and upper flooring delivered
Thursday 29th - downstairs frame started and mostly completed
Friday 30th - upper floor frame erected
September -
Monday 3rd - lower roofing progressed, bathroom wall frame corrected (it was back to front), bath hob in, alfresco post in
Thursday 6th - framing complete!
Friday 7th - Upper scaffolding set up

Monday 10th - Facia & guttering installed
Wednesday 12th - Upper roof tiles start
Thursday 13th - windows & external doors?
Friday 14th - Solar hot water and solar electricity panels installed, plumbing & gas rough in?
Monday 17th - Electrical, phone & data rough in (2 days), final upper roof check after panels installed (any tile cracks/repairs), frame inspection?
Wednesday 19th - Lower roof tiles go on
Thursday 20th - Aircon rough in
It's all progressing well and we've been really blessed with fine weather and trades being available pretty much one after another. The Site Supervisor is booking ahead and keeping things moving :)
Following this is sisilation, termimesh, brickwork, cladding & upper eaves which I expect will take 2-3 weeks.
