DAY 7 - They must know what they're doing, right?

It seems that polystyrene is strong enough to support a house!  Today, Wednesday 22nd August they prepped for the slab pour.  They first laid down black plastic, boxed up the perimeter, and filled it with waffle pod 'stuff'.

It seems that it's a lot cheaper and faster than the old way of doing concrete. And I would hope it's just as strong!  It was interesting to watch.

Black plastic under slab and boxing started.  Rio in the trench for the front porch footings

The polystyrene pods are held in place by plastic spacers.  They cut the pods to shape to fit around pipe work

Almost finished

Rio is laid on top of the pods, and it's raised by plastic supports which allow the concrete to go below and above the rio

Termimesh comes in and attaches a barrier to all slab penetrations.  Because the pipes go
through the concrete and the slab, the Termimesh will keep the critters from coming up through the slab.

It reminds me of a tutu.  But it's actually a steel mesh and quite strong.
The concrete is poured above the mesh line so nothing can get through

We also now have a portaloo onsite!  Very convenient... but now our view from the tank is not so nice :(
Couldn't the builders have walked an extra few metres to have it out of the way?

191 days and counting down... it's all happening so fast, I can't imagine it will take that long?
