DAY 84 - Oooh ahhhh... our stone bench tops are in!

How exciting!  Our stone bench tops went in today.  I dropped by this afternoon and the bathroom, ensuite, power room and kitchen benches either side of the oven were in!  Oooh I like them a lot :)

After visiting the stone suppliers and the stone masons earlier in the year, we chose a small (3mm x 3mm) pencil round edge instead of the standard arris edge.  I was concerned about chipping and the small pencil round gives a squarish look without the sharp edges.  I'm really happy with it.

We love the basins in our bathrooms.  These were my small win against big builder's ridiculous prices, when we were told they were a standard inclusion but then charged $1000 for them!  I had it in writing that they were standard so pushed the issue and they agreed to give them to us at no charge.  Yipee!

But where's the island bench?  I called the stone masons and it seems that the installers thought my sink was an undermount sink so were going to cut the hole at the factory as they need to polish it.  I'm not sure which part of the box they read, but it's an inset sink.  They were still in the area so came back later to install the sink.

I was so excited when I bought my sink, but now it's in I'm not impressed with how it looks.  There's quite a gap between it and the bench top and approx 3mm of silicone is showing, some areas worse than others.  We've put some extra boxes of tiles on top to weight it down.  Will see what it's like tomorrow...
