We came back yesterday from holidays, a day early due to 'the plague' hitting our camp, but we were too tired and sick to come by to have a look. After a good sleep in, we came to see what's happened whilst we were away for 7 working days (and yes, it was hard to not come everyday and check it out).
We drove up the driveway and Em had her eyes closed saying 'don't tell me what's been done' and I was thinking 'I really hope something has been done'.
What a nice surprise to see so much progress...
- lower roof is on though no pointing yet (think that's after the brick & cladding is finished)
- windows are in... I LOVE them!
- alfresco stacker doors installed (to be stained later)
- door frames for front door, laundry door & rear garage door installed
- cavity door frames installed
- plaster has been delivered
- data & speaker cabling finished
- niche in ensuite shower has been repositioned
- and the lower bricks are almost finished!!!
Feast you're eyes on these pics... 4 days and a bunch of hard working brickies and this is what you get!
Phew! We love the colour of the bricks! |
I wondered how they support the bricks above the porch. There's a massive steel lintel that 4 men lifted into place and then they brick over it.
A friend said to make sure the brickies do a good job as her neighbour has dodgy brickwork. I shared this with the brickies and said I thought their work was great. They told me they're the worst group of brickies from their company... so I can only imagine what we could have had ;)
Seriously though, as far as my knowledge of it goes, they seem to be doing a neat job and taking care.
the stacker doors! |
on the left you can see them bricking the columns of the porch - this was a big job and they really enjoyed it... not! |

Plaster for upstairs in the master bedroom (there's supports downstairs under this section) |
Daniel's super cool recessed power/data boxes for future wall mounted tv |
The shower niche has been rebuilt. |
Cavity door frames to study |
Cavity door frames to media room |
I forgot the flash when I took some of these pics so will have to replace them with better ones. It seems I didn't get all the rooms either and forgot most of the doors.
Daniel also picked up our sink package and rangehood today so they are in our hot little hands ready to be installed at a moment's notice :)
So what's next? Scaffold will go up so they can wrap upstairs then finish the brick work. The cladding will go on and I guess they also finish the lower roof and take the scaffold down. Then there's insulation and by the end of next week they hope the plaster will have started. He takes about 12 days to complete the walls, roof & cornices. A big job!
150 days of our contract to go and only 80 or so until Christmas. I'm not sure we'll make it... but look how much they've done so far!
