Today, Wednesday 24th October and the brickies were onsite bright and early. It seems that the brick company had found bricks from our batch left from various other jobs and would have just enough for our house... we hope. The brickies were told to be careful with them as there weren't any more. These were to arrive this morning.
They said if they wrong ones came again they would build it in the wrong
bricks and the builder could render the house for us :) Daniel
suggested they break quite a few so they don't have enough! Render
would be nice, but I do really like our bricks so hopefully they have
enough to finish.
This afternoon when I dropped by there were bricks of our batch! Yipee!! Tomorrow they will get to work and should finish it all off.
They had thrown all the bricks down from the scaffold so many are broken but we plan to salvage what we can for our future projects. They were going to tell the delivery truck to leave what he could of the wrong bricks for us to keep (as sometimes they dump them). I think 1 pallet may have been left but maybe that's unopened of the right bricks.
The staircase was started today too, and it's looking great. The man seems to be taking great care to measure twice and cut once. It will be finished off tomorrow with the balustrade and capping timber for the half wall upstairs. We are very excited to run up and down it!
I love all the room under the stairs and am so glad we put a door in to access it - but is it a storage room, a great hide & seek spot, or perhaps Harry Potter's bedroom?
I also paid a deposit on all our light fittings and fans. We're looking forward to these going in, hopefully next month.
And we got our lease renewal, which we won't be renewing. I'm actually hoping we can leave early and they can find new tenants so we can stop paying rent.
Only 128 days left... I'm hoping more like 50!
