Our electrical selections

It's a whole other world out there of lights and fans!  After visiting several lighting stores and looking online we decided on a family owned localish business who will also give good warranty service.  I think they are glad we have now finalised our choices and paid a deposit so we'll stop browsing and asking questions :)

The challenge is that it's a fast moving industry with new products coming out all the time.  One morning I was checking some things in store and when we went back in the afternoon to make our selection, 3 new downlights had been dropped off by the rep that day.

It's so difficult to install any additional wiring downstairs that we're trying to do anything we might need now.  We also decided to spend a bit extra to get good quality and energy efficient fittings which we hopefully should never have to replace (LED bulbs are said to last around 30,000 hours) and will reduce our power consumption.

The owner and his son were fantastic and spent a lot of time explaining the different models & suppliers and this is what we've chosen...

Large 16w gimble downlight for living areas

Smaller 8w downlight for wc's, powder room, over the bathroom and ensuite vanities and over the bath

Pendant light for over the dining table... but wait there's more!

It has retractable blades so it's also a ceiling fan!  We like this so we can use the fan when it's hot but other times it's a nice light fitting.

Our pendant light for our stair case - the 5 lights can be adjusted to suit our ceiling/stair height.

We joke that our last fans were about $40 from Bunnings, you could hardly feel airflow beneath them and they didn't put out much light.  They also were reviewed by Choice and were one of the worst.    For our new home, we were fortunate to get some really good sale prices so went with nice fans which we hope will work a lot better than our old ones.

Exhaust fan/light/heat lamps for ensuite

The exhaust fans also have flaps that close when not being used, which keeps warm/cool air in the bathroom, as well as closing the vents so no critters can get in!

This may be our feature light on our front columns.  We plan to borrow a few types of lights and see which we like.

30w LED floodlight for main area we'll use outside

Twin 9w LED spotlights for outside eaves
